It is with great pleasure and a deep sense of pride that I welcome you to another instalment of the IFATSEA Africa Region Meeting (ARM). The 15th IFATSEA ARM is being hosted by our distinguished affiliate, Uganda Air Transport Safety Engineering Association (UGATSEA), at Uganda’s national and commercial capital, bordering Lake Victoria, in Kampala. This gathering marks another significant milestone in our collective journey to advance the safety, efficiency, and sustainability of air navigation services across the African continent.
Our theme this year, “Digital Transformation in CNS/ATM: Strengthening ATSEP Competencies for a Safer and Sustainable Future,” could not be more timely or relevant. As the aviation industry undergoes rapid technological evolution, the role of Air Traffic Safety Electronics Personnel (ATSEP) becomes increasingly critical. We are the custodians of the systems that ensure the safety and reliability of air traffic management, and our ability to adapt, innovate, and lead in this digital era is paramount.
Our meeting provides a unique platform for us to share knowledge, exchange best practices, and forge stronger collaborations. It is an opportunity to reflect on our progress, confront our challenges, and chart a course toward a future where African skies are not only safer but also smarter and more sustainable.
I extend my heartfelt gratitude to all participants, speakers, and partners who have answered our call and agreed to contribute to this important theme. To my Africa Region Affiliate Committee (ARAC), your commitment to excellence and your dedication to the ATSEP profession inspire us all. I am indebted to you for enabling us to lead as a collective and serve our Region.
We commit to engaging with purpose, learning with enthusiasm, and leaving our gathering empowered to drive meaningful change in our respective domains.
I look forward to welcoming you all to Uganda’s national and commercial city of Kampala.
With appreciation,
Sam Mahlangu
